SCIHRA invites you to a Neurodiversity in the Workplace webinar on Wednesday, October 13 from 11:45am-1:00pm, featuring Janell Yonkman, MS, OTR, Occupational Therapist at ACES Clinic.

Join Janell as she defines neurodiversity in the workplace, identifying four (4) key areas of focus for employers who want to hire a neurodiverse population and exploring two (2) resources to reference for information related to building a neurodiverse workforce.

Janell received her bachelor’s degree from Indiana University (IU) in Recreational Therapy. Upon completing her degree at IU she continued her education at Washington University in St. Louis earning her Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy. Much of her career was spent at Riley Hospital for Children at Indiana University Health providing client-centered treatment to children with autism. Additionally, she worked for the Automotive Safety Program and specialized in child safety restraints for children with special healthcare needs. For over 10 years she worked at the College Internship Program (CIP) which provided services to young adults with learning differences including autism. Janell also had the opportunity to work with colleagues conducting research. Some of their published work includes articles in the Official Journal of the American Academy of Pediatrics, OT Practice Magazine for the American Occupational Therapy Association, and two articles in the American Journal of Occupational Therapy.


Janell will earn her Certificate in Learning Differences and Neurodiversity with a Specialization in Executive Function in January 2021 from Landmark College. She will continue to pursue an additional Specialization in Autism on Campus and Online with a focus on understanding the support for high school and college students. Her current expertise is academic and vocational pursuits for those with learning differences.

She lives in Bloomington with her husband and two sons, Leo 13 and Vic 8.
